Members perform at many
concerts throughout the year for community groups, with at least two
major
concerts at the Woodville Town Hall. We sing with orchestras, brass
bands,
concert bands, accompanied by the piano and unaccompanied. Funds for
the Queen
Elizabeth Hospital Foundation are raised and, when in the country
areas, for
that rural community. We also sing at weddings, council ceremonies, in
shopping
centres at Christmas, church services, special events and general
events - anywhere
we can spread the joy of singing.
In 1995 the Choir made its
first recording, and in 2001, to celebrate 20 years of singing, a CD
was recorded called ‘The Colours of Our Choir’.
Our second CD entitled "Silver Memories" was recorded in 2007 in
recognition of our 25th Anniversary.
In 1999 The Woodville
Concert Choir performed Handel’s “Messiah” with the Unley Chamber
Orchestra and
in 2002 performed with the Band of the South Australia Police. We were
invited
back to sing with that band at their Proms Concert in the Adelaide Town
Hall in
June 2005.
A highlight of 2002 was our
performance with members of the S.A. Country Choral Association Inc. in
‘Two
Captains’, a tribute to explorers, Matthew Flinders and Nicolas Baudin,
as part
of the ‘Encounter 2002’ celebrations in South Australia. Performances
were held
at Port Lincoln, Victor Harbor and the Woodville Town Hall.
Ensembles have from time to
time enjoyed considerable success in competition performances,
including
Eisteddfods in Adelaide, Millicent and Strathalbyn. In 2000 and 2003
Rosemary’s
Ladies Choir performed at the “Voices of Women Festival” in Melbourne.
The Woodville Concert Choir
Inc also supports vocal solo sections of the Adelaide Eisteddfod by
donating
prize-winner awards.
